Selecting the Roster
This was the first company I painted. Instead of deliberately choosing the unit, I picked twelve 'Mechs I believed I would not regret using. The 'Mechs I had available were from the introductory box set and the lance packs. Since I used the Shogun, I decided this would probably be a Wolf's Dragoons company.
Since the 'Mechs weren't chosen to fill a unit, arranging them into lances according to the criteria in Alpha Strike Companion and Campaign Operations yielded somewhat non-optimal lances. I suppose the Dragoons might have had to field a unit like this after or during Misery, although I'm sure their camouflage would have been better.

Painting
The unit is supposed to be painted in mountain camouflage, modeled after this 'Mech on Camo Specs. Different batches used different browns and striping colors. Cockpit jeweling was tried on one batch but I didn't yet have the skill set to pull it off.
The base was painted using Reaper MSP Shield Brown and then covered in Army Painter's brown battleground flock basing mixed with some crushed glass vase filler (the large grey bits). The rim of the base was painted using P3 Thamar Black.
Thoughts
We have to start somewhere and this is where I started (excluding a solitary Dervish). It is by no means my best work but it reflects what I could do at the time.
The only major issue I remember I while painting was that the flock wasn't completely glued down. When I applied the brush-on sealer, the flock would come up, leaving some bare spots. This is probably a hazard of using PVA glue and brush-on sealer.
